Alison lost 22.2 pounds, 1.25 inches from her shoulders, 1.25 inches from each arm, 3 inches from her chest, 2.5 inches from her waist, 1.5 inches from her hips, and 3 inches from each thigh. Alison also decreased her Body Fat by 3%, lowered her Waist to Hip Ratio, and decreased her Body Mass Index. Throughout the challenge, Alison and I worked through obstacles such as maintaining a healthy diet, scheduling, vacation, exercise program modification, and sickness. Alison is excited to share her story with you!

"I have struggled with maintaining a healthy weight and diet throughout my adult years. I have never been a very confident person, nor have I ever felt totally comfortable in my own skin. Most days I feel like my life is spiraling out of control."
"I am a physical therapist and have a wealth of knowledge regarding exercise and eating healthy. But for some reason I haven't been able to stay motivated long enough to see results since getting married and having my son. I put everyone else first and forgot to take care of myself, despite knowing that the happier I am, the happier everyone else in my life will also be. I am hoping this challenge will provide me with the resources to stay motivated and focused on taking care of my own health, as well as improving my family's health. I am also looking to increase my self-confidence in all aspects of my life. I know that the responsibility to be healthy is in my hands and that no one else can do it for me, but I am looking for some guidance and support to get there."

"The past 12 weeks have been a great learning experience. There have been ups and downs, frustrations and setbacks, but overall it was exactly what I needed. Implementing an exercise program was the most difficult aspect of my transformation. The best time for me to exercise is first thing in the morning, but it was difficult getting out of bed at 4:30 am. However, I soon realized the benefits I received outweighed the cost. I found that I was more patient, more confident, happier, and was able to handle the stressors of the day more effectively. On the mornings that I didn't get out of bed, I found I was frustrated with myself for the poor choice that I had made. I also discovered that I tended to overeat on those days, hoping that food would make me feel better! That never worked! Once I realized exercise made me feel better physically, emotionally and psychologically, I started to enjoy getting up every morning. I looked forward to feeling the "high" that it gave me and the satisfaction that I got from checking it off my goal list so early in the day."
"I had a few eye opening experiences throughout my journey. In the past I would have quickly jumped on the latest "diet" band wagon. I was tempted to do this again when some of my colleagues began following a popular diet plan, but I decided that I was not looking for a quick fix. I was looking to improve my lifestyle and to learn to be happy for the rest of my life. I knew that I was making a life change and that I was going to stick with it."
"Another great experience came when my family and I went on vacation. I had spoken to Carrie about my apprehension concerning the changes in my routine. We discussed ways to implement exercise into my vacation, and designed a strength routine that could be done outside the gym. We also discussed diet options, including making better food choices when eating out. At the end of the week, I felt that I could have done better, but I was truly proud of myself for continuing the journey, even on vacation. I was learning how to truly make this part of my life and not just looking for a "quick fix"."
"When I returned from vacation, I came down with a head cold. The cold took everything out of me, and when I tried to exercise I felt worse. Despite my frustration with my anticipated setbacks, I knew whole heartedly that I would get back to my structured routine as soon as I felt better. In the past I would have given up for weeks, or even months. This time I got back on track as soon as I felt better, and didn't miss a beat. That was another great moment when I knew I was making a life change."
"Throughout this challenge I have seen an improvement in my strength, energy, and endurance. I am also more active with my son, and he has enjoyed working out at home with Mommy. My husband and I have both joined the SUNY Roos House fitness center, and we push each other to get there as often as possible. I am happier seeing myself in the mirror and I like the person that looks back at me; she is strong and confident and happier in her own skin. I have had to update my wardrobe to smaller sizes and l love being able to feel comfortable in clothes again. I feel great, and I am proud of the physical, emotional, and mental changes that I have made. I learned a great deal from this experience and gained the knowledge and knowhow to carry me through the years to come! I have learned so much about myself as a person, and I know what I am capable of accomplishing. I know with hard work I will get to exactly where I want to be. It feels great to take care of ME again!"
